a little history of the song in early versions if you missed the post earlier (sorry I don't remember who provided these to give credit). Most people thought Paul wrote the song for Ringo but as it turns out, these recently discovered tapes show John started it as a sad song that Paul helped rewrite to happy song & then it was given to Ringo to sing.

Listening to the changes made in John's first version of the song to Paul's changes, the Hey Jude second line "Take a sad song and make it better" come to mind right away & maybe Paul was referring to the rewrite of Yellow Submarine"?
