As an Easter gift and an addition to your BBC sets, here is the complete edition of Where It's At as aired on the BBC Light Programme on 20th May 1967, featuring Kenny Everett interviewing The Beatles and introducing songs from their upcoming album (the name of which escapes me but I think it has the word "pepper" in the title). By this time the Beeb had been thrown into a tiz by the appearance of the pirate stations which played oodles of records all day long, so they were beginning to modernize their output while in the background the Maritime Offences Act passed through parliament and Radio 1 was gearing up to go live. Where It's At is much more recognisably like a modern day radio broadcast than the quaint programmes The Beatles had appeared on during their early days. Kenny Everett had been headhunted by the Beeb who heard him on the pirate Radio London. He became so popular on Denning's show that he was quickly given his own (the first of many).
So, here for you to enjoy is this time capsule from the past in glorious mono. 90 minutes of great music from the days when fabulous and innovative records were falling like manna from heaven. Just compare that to today!
One funny thing: the song A Day In The Life doesn't get an airing because the BBC decided it was drug related. And yet there seems to be no problem airing a record called Granny Takes A Trip!
