Re: EVOLVER
Two more good 'uns for you today!
This is one of my favourite outtakes: You Never Give Me Your Money from the old Beatleg Abbey Road NW3. Though superficially similar to the lp, it has many interesting differences, not the least of which is the fabulous extended jam at the end! Well this iconic mono Beatles outtake is now available for you to enjoy in high quality stereo!
Some highlights:
- Paul's vocal is totally different. It is so plaintive and beautiful and I love it so much more than the one on the album, especially the sustained "Ohhhhh"s. No one else could sing like that.
- While the piano starts out the same as the lp, the original piano was wiped by an overdub after the song gets to "Out of college...". here it goes right way through.
- The bass guitar from the lp is missing, but interestingly there is a different bass guitar part during the "Out of college..." section.
- The lp has a hard edit to a different take (not sure which one, I can't find any mention of this in Lewisohn) but the original take 30 continues here after 3'36" and goes into a jam. The stereo picture changes slightly here with the piano moving over to the right. I wasn't able to do it any other way. But it still sounds good.
- Some other overdubs like the honky-tonk piano and another guitar part are absent. A case of "less is more" for me at least.

But wait, there's more! I have also created a second mix with Paul's bass guitar overdub! I actually prefer this mix. I removed the alternate bass part for this version so it wouldn't clash with the other one. Since the bass on the lp cuts out before the jam, I have extended it by the magic of electrickery. A virtual Paul maybe, but a decent one!
Enjoy

EXCELLENT! Thank you Lord Reith, your Evolver series is wonderful (and this is a great song choice for the collection too)!
Especially love the 2nd mix with bass overdub...

Re: EVOLVER (formerly "Two new ones")
Yes, thanks for doing the AR outtakes especially now that we already have the outtakes from the 50th Anniversary Deluxe box set, these are great additions to the set.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:22 pmI remember you asking for the abbey road ones so you'll be glad to know I am doing them this time around.
