Inquires about LET IT BE (1970)

Post by jujube »

Is anyone aware of a theatrical film print that has been cleaned and scanned in HD resolution? (Essentially something that has come more recently than the VHS/Laserdisc transfers we're all familiar with.) What is generally considered one of the "better" transfers?

Also, has anyone ever "replaced" any sections of the film with professionally restored parts like the performances of "Let It Be" and "The Long and Winding Road" from the 1+ Blu-ray edition? Another source I can think of is Scorsese's Living in the Material World documentary that contains the infamous Paul/George argument. And, of course, there is the rooftop performance in things like Jackson's Get Back or the Eight Days a Week documentary. I wonder if anyone has "stitched together" something using those snippets into the film's edit.

Essentially I'm hoping to find a "definitive," "high quality" version of the film as it originally existed without any revisionism. Any links or insights are helpful and appreciated!

I'm also curious about the restored version of Let It Be that Apple had prepared for use in the Anthology series and to be released along with Let It Be... Naked. Is that available online? Where did it come from? A leak from within Apple? For that matter, is there a leak of the work supposedly done in preparation for Get Back that they had originally teased when the Peter Jackson project was first announced?

The only versions available to the fans are:

The widescreen version as taped off the BBC in 1979

The German vhs release in uncropped full frame (4:3) and the occasional subtitle

The laserdisc which is a cropped version of the cropped widescreen

The bits and pieces in the various documentaries

An unidentified print which is similar to the German vhs

There is also a version of the 1992 Remaster available, but a significant portion of the frame is cropped. However, it has the best colors of any complete copy!

It might be somewhere here inbetween this mix of videos, maybe i´m wrong. I´m a little confused by all the formats and these videos are not really specified.
I also want to say THANK YOU to Lord Reith.
