Abbey Road (Rock Band mix, EQ matched to '70s Capitol LP version)

Post by paul62 »

Here's another project I wrapped up the other day: my remix (and remaster) of the Rock Band version of Abbey Road.

Made from the original .mogg files that fell from a clear blue sky one day, into the heart of Beatlegdom ( ).

Each track was mixed with stems 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 panned 100% to the left and stems 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 panned 100% to the right. Volume dropped by 6.9 dB for every stem and then the ten stems mixed down to a stereo track.

Each track was then EQ-matched to the corresponding track from a '70s Capitol LP mastered by Wally Traugott (side one) and Wayne Watkins AKA Wayne D (side two): each vinyl track speed-matched to the Rock Band mix before EQ-matching.

The final step was to volume-match each track to the corresponding track on the 2009 USB stick remaster. The 2009 remastering team maxed out the volume of each track (although done without any clipping or brick-walling). If listening through headphones, take the volume down before "hitting the play button" for maximal listening pleasure.

So, we end up with something that sounds like the vinyl LP (but better, as there is no surface/groove noise), sounds better than both the Rock Band mix (expanded frequency range) and the 2009 remaster (no compression and no bass boost).

Hi Paul62, thanks for all of the hard work. After reading your description I had to download and hear for myself.

I think you'll like it (let me know what you think after you've had a listen!).

The bonus tracks are the medley sections joined together (I did this because some media players will add a gap at the front or end of a track and that would disturb the flow of the medley).

You're welcome, gaizoku!

I may EQ-match these tracks to the 2019 remix (and to a Toshiba Pro-Use vinyl 'drop by pbthal) at some point.
