Does anyone know how to convert an audiobook

Post by cdgm »

Does anyone know how to convert an audiobook from Audible to an audio file like wav or mp3. I needed to grab one audible book for someone to convert it. Apparently they are encrypted. There are programs I can pay for to do it, but I’m just doing one book. So if someone has done this your help would be appreciated. All the typical apps for music don’t work. Thanks.

I don't know the answer, but if you have Audacity and can play your audio book on your pc, you can just set it up to record it as it plays. Then save the Audacity file.

I've done this with podcasts which are not downloadable. You can get on with other things and leave it running.

Yes I’ve done this before, but the book is 11 hours. But it’s an idea. I can do it a chapter at a time playing it through iTunes. I have to figure out how to record on my current computer. I used to have an external sound card on my old ones with software to do this. Haven’t done it yet on my stripped down windows 11 computer.

Use 'Libation' or 'InAudible'. Both free and will convert your book quickly and losslessly, leaving you with a small file.
Most of my links are to OneDrive. However, OneDrive does impose a download limit and when this is reached displays a message that the files are deleted or have expired. Leave it a while and try again later.

Thanks Phil_Lip. I'll give that a shot tomorrow. Just looked it up real quick and it sounds like a good plan.
