VHS should have the full vertical resolution of 576, it's only the horizontal resolution that is less (which doesn't matter as much).O1Ghungary wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 3:47 pm The problem is that all versions are originally from a VHS source with a resolution of only 320*482. Presumably Amazon used a better SD source (Betamax 625/576i maybe?).

Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?
No, that chart is assuming that the vhs is ntsc (480i) that has had one of the fields thrown out, leaving it at 240p. The vertical resolution of PAL vhs is 540i (in pixels, or 625 scan lines) and NTSC vhs is 480i (525 scan lines). The horizontal resolution of vhs is somewhere around 350 and Super VHS is something like 640. Neither of them achieve the full horizontal resolution of 720.
So a PAL screening of BOTB from a print should be the full 540 vertical resolution, but a bit softer because the horizontal resolution is more or less halved.

It wasn't anamorphic so the vertical resolution of that Star Wars was about 250p. No better than an SVCD of old. In fact any widescreen movies on laserdisc have subpar resoltion, especially those in cinemascope with 2.35:1 ratios.
If you want the "real" star wars trilogy in HD look for Harmy's Despecialized Editions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmy's_D ... ed_Edition
