Acetates Forgery

Post by skynet »

These days the guys over internet (particularly Facebook) can be really naive and annoying, there is this guy in a fan beatles group claiming to have a "high value" acetate pressing from the Beatles (from the nagras nevertheless), but it looks like a forgery to me taken from the nagra tapes

Unless i am wrong or if someone can have a look? do you think this guy really struck with something really new?

Does that say "HANKY 4-B1"? does it say what the other side says?

Do acetates generally have stamped codes in the run-out?
I guess they have been rush-copies of proper releases but I
thought that by their nature acetates were usually quickly-made
one-offs for reviewing purposes ... so they wouldn't generally
have stamped codes ... I may be wrong of course.

You’re right to be sceptical. An acetate isn’t designed to be played more than a handful of times as it starts to deteriorate from the first play. The label on the pictured record clearly states that it’s a test pressing, which is simply a standard vinyl disc pressed in limited quantities to test how the final mix/ version etc sounds before mass production starts. The matrix in the run out groove confirms this.

This looks like it’s a test press for a bootleg record, as such it’s not of much value (or even interest).

Thank you guys, appreciate the response

Is baffling that the owner is still claiming that is a "rare" acetate with high value... anyway :)

It's almost certainly 'rare' lol. Might be the only one ever made
