Beatles live on BBC Radio 1963-1964 *MY 2024 STEREO MIXES*
Following my recent stereo mix of ‘Soldier Of Love’ I was inspired to work on new stereo mixes of some of my favourite BBC radio performances taken from the 1994 “Beatles Live at the BBC” and 2013 “On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2” CDs. While each set features a treasure trove of unreleased gems these CDs were compiled from surviving BBC tapes each varying greatly in sound quality, so each track presented me with a challenge to inject more “oomph” and “life” into the thin, tinny and often distorted recordings while opening up each one into stereo for the first time to recover as much fidelity as possible.
Here’s what’s included:-
01. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY BABY (recorded 22.1.63, broadcast 26.1.63) Lead Vocal by John.
Recorded at the BBC Playhouse Theatre, Westminster, London. From “Saturday Club”.
02. LUCILLE (recorded 7.9.63, broadcast 5.10.63) Lead Vocal by Paul.
Recorded at the BBC Playhouse Theatre, Westminster, London. Produced by Bernie Andrews. From “Saturday Club’s Fifth Birthday Edition”.
03. DON’T EVER CHANGE (recorded 1.8.63, broadcast 27.8.63) Lead Vocal harmony duet by Paul & George.
Recorded at the BBC Playhouse Theatre, Hulme, Manchester. Produced by Ian Grant. From “Pop Goes The Beatles”.
04. THE HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE (recorded 3.9.63, broadcast 10.9.63) Lead vocal by Paul.
Recorded at the Aeolian Hall Studio 2, Mayfair, London. Produced by Ian Grant. From “Pop Goes The Beatles”.
05. SO HOW COME (NO ONE LOVES ME) (recorded 10.7.63, broadcast 23.7.63) Lead Vocal harmony duet by George & John.
Recorded at the Aeolian Hall Studio 2, Mayfair, London. Produced by Terry Henebury. From “Pop Goes The Beatles”.
06. I’M GONNA SIT RIGHT DOWN & CRY (OVER YOU) (recorded 16.7.63, broadcast 6.8.63) Lead Vocals by John & Paul.
Recorded at the BBC Paris Theatre, Regent Street, London. Produced by Terry Henebury. From “Pop Goes The Beatles”.
07. GLAD ALL OVER (recorded 30.7.63, broadcast 24.8.63) Lead Vocal by George.
Recorded at the BBC Playhouse Theatre, Westminster, London. Produced by Bernie Andrews. From “Saturday Club”.
Note: I removed Brian Matthew’s introductory voiceover which occurred a few seconds into the performance.
08. I’LL BE ON MY WAY (recorded 4.4.63, broadcast 24.6.63) Lead Vocal by John, Harmony Vocal by Paul.

09. SOLDIER OF LOVE (recorded 2.7.63, broadcast 16.7.63) Lead Vocal by John.
Recorded at Maida Vales Studios, Paddington, London. Produced by Terry Henebery. From “Pop Goes The Beatles”.
