Belo Horizonte - December 3rd, 2023

Post by billylentz »

Hi guys!

In the meantime while I think about doing a HD recording on a smartphone, for now what I still have is still lossy mp3 from my Sony recorder... Sorry...

Anyway, here´s Paul´s concert from yesterday night. Just the rough file, as recorded; no edits, fades or anything.

It was an unusual concert in some ways...

First, something went wrong with the equipment, which caused an hour long delay. The crew guys were very tensely walking around the stage, checking mics, amps, guitars, lights and everything. You could see by their faces something was very different from expected. It was a relief when they began trading thumbs up from one side of the stage to the other.

As a result, I think, Chris Holmes set was omitted, and his equipment was taken out of the stage. I bet he wasn´t very happy about it.

The film on the side screens was cut too. We only had the final image with a bit of music - the album versions, not the remixed tracks -, then the usual ending came out and Paul entered the stage.

But things weren´t still normal: Abe had some king of injury and played almost the whole concert with a single hand! I was wandering if he was showing off a little bit, because there´s no way he would be so well rehearsed to play with one hand only. In any case, he was fantastic and very energetic, as usual.

A rumored participation by our very own genius Milton Nascimento didn´t happen, although he attended the concert.

Other than that, we got the exact same set as in the Brasília concert two days before. Paul & band offered the usual heart warming, tear taking, dream like performance, with lots of nice interaction.

All things considered, another night to be remembered. It amazes me Paul would want to play so frequently in Brazil, specially in our humble Belo Horizonte. It´s very special. I´m looking very forward for the next session, later today.

Hey Fernando!

What a great list to see! Thank you very much for keeping that! I don´t have my old e-mail anymore, so I lost most of these precious interactions. Fantastic to see that! I see you got some of my very own Billy Bootleg home made releases and some I still keep on the favorites shelf, such as "Harald tapes for Lentz", which was among my very first CD-rs, with loads of tracks that had never been available in Brazil and were totally new for me at the time.

I don´t live in the Mangabeiras house anymore, but my sister is still there. Never had the chance to meet Edson Holthausen, but I was very good friends with Sidney until he sadly passed away a few years ago. The last time we talk, he was already ill, but he had ordered the John Lennon vinyl box with the 2010´s remasters and was very excited about it. I always wander if he got that in time for a last rock and roll session.

And... Of course I still have all those wonderful CDs from that era. It was so fantastic. I loved it so much. The whole process since getting in touch with new friends until printing the covers... I miss that very much.
