Split Personality Mixes (6-7)
Okay, this is not perfect quality... but it's educational!
When The Beatles recorded She Loves You, they appear to have done it live with John and Paul singing most of it in close harmony and George joining them for the "she almost lost her mind" kind of lines and then in the chorus pretty much in unison with John except for the "Andrews Sisters" 6th note at the start and end of the song.
They then seem to have double tracked the "yeah, yeah, yeah"s with all of them shouting heartily.
So in this split personality mix, the instruments are in the centre and John and George are on the left. On the right is Paul plus the double tracked yeah yeahs. You might notice that Paul does a harmony on his "yeah yeah yeahs", singing G-F#-G instead of the usual G-F#-E. He never did this again. Also George doesn't seem to sing on the two lines "well I saw her yesterday" and "she told me what to say", even though he did live. But he comes in on the next verse.
And, wow, they sure could sing. Paul's vocal is so sweet and innocent, like a child. Or maybe they were trying to sound like a girl group? I can't think of any other group - past or present - who adopt actual vocal personas for songs. Paul in particular had so many different "voices". Remarkable.
Best experienced with headphones for an earwig - sorry, beetle - in each ear. Yeah yeah yeah!

Yes, for the basic takes of SLY and IGY they sang in unison and then on the overdub takes Paul did they lower harmonies.
You can tell by the timber of the voices there was different microphone placement between under-dub and over-dub voices.

I have loved that song ever since August 16th 1963 and I must say that this is the best version I've ever heard. Remarkable. Great work My Lord, great work!

So cool to hear.
I seem to recall the sessions for this tune were cut short because some girls got into the studio and chased the boys around.
Is that true, or just made up in the blender of my mind?
