Remix of Candlestick Park with same technology as Stowe?

Post by chescowx »

Hello all,
Has anyone attempted or is thinking of applying this technology to clean up the Candlestick tapes? The stick tape is probably by far the best sounding audience tape we have of the Beatles (thanks to the nearest fan being over 50 yards away from the hand held microphone).
I would imagine there might be a way to further lift the vocals and some of the instruments in the mix?
Thanks!
Paul

Speaking of nice audeince recordings, Vancouver is pretty good too, especially the new gen upgrade shown off in Eight Days A Week. (I think its an audience recording at least? Heard it was place below the stage?)

I hope Lord Reith gets around to working on Candlestick someday, he is the king! maybe combining together a bit of Munich/Japans with Candlestick?

I just know in If I Needed Someone, Paul’s voice is very gery overpowering and I wonder if it’ll be possible to raise George’s and John’s voice a little higher in the mix!

For those with high hopes let me remind you that Candlestick Park was recorded on a portable cassette recorder by Tony Barrow. That cassette was later directly used once for a bootleg release in Europe. I forgot which one it was, but I will remember that one when I see the cover again. I will ask my friend Massimo.

Candlestick Park is to my mind the best stadium concert they ever did. It is right on the threshold of where rock and roll became rock, with those fantastic overdriven Casino guitars. Not sure what can be done for it but I will take a listen.

Barrow gave the original tape of the Candlestick Park concert to McCartney. He also made a single copy, which was kept in a locked drawer for a while in Barrow’s office desk. The recording has since become widely circulated on bootlegs, although quite how is not known. I’m pretty sure the Yellow Dog CD release was probably best.

Tony Barrow: “At San Francisco airport, as our plane prepared to take off, Paul’s head came over the top of my seat from the row behind: ‘Did you get anything on tape?’ I passed the cassette recorder back to him: ‘I got the lot, except that the tape ran out in the middle of Long Tall Sally.’ He asked if I had left the machine running between numbers to get all the announcements and the boys’ ad lib remarks. I said: ‘It’s all there from the guitar feedback before the first number.’ Paul was clearly chuffed to have such a unique souvenir of what would prove to be an historic evening – the farewell stage show from the Fab Four.
Back in London I kept the concert cassette under lock and key in a drawer of my office desk, making a single copy for my personal collection and passing the original to Paul for him to keep. Years later my Candlestick Park recording re-appeared in public as a bootleg album. If you hear a bootleg version of the final concert that finishes during Long Tall Sally it must have come either from Paul’s copy or mine, but we never did identify the music thief!”

Best guess is that Paul lent the tape to someone who copied it.

The YD release is very good and *may* be the best, but Masterdisc (MDCD 007) gives the YD CD a run for its money! 8-)
