What unreleased bootleg is YOUR "Holy Grail"

Post by silver_2000 »

For me, its the full Quarrymen set from the 1950s, the same day that Lennon met McCartney, we only got snippets of Baby's Lets Play House

And

The full Essen Soundboad, where we have around 15 seconds of Rock And Roll Music

Is there any bootlegs that you know are out there somewhere that YOU wish you could hear?

The full 1963 What Goes On demo? etc...

We Can Work It Out live in’65.

But Carnival if Light and Etcetera would be welcome too!

Paul has a tape of them playing a gig at the Cavern. They say the quality is poor, but I'd still like to hear it!

I would love to hear all early takes of the White Album for that matter, many songs span multiple reels and just a few got released on the SDE.

I got this list from an thread, I don't know how true it is, wouldn't put too much hope into it, but it says there is a audience recording of Autumn 1964, Colston Hall, Bristol 10 November. Maybe one of these days it'll leak out if its out there, nobody thought Stowe would come

I remembering reading a qutoe from Mark Lewisohn about a Cavern recording, saying it was poor, but hell I would listen to it too, might be some "rare" beatle covers on that? Something like "Baby Please Don't Go" which Lennon says they played in Cavern before he did it with ZAPPA

On August 29, 1985, an 18-track audience recording of a Cavern performance from Mid-1962 (Some sources say July) was put up for auction at Sotheby's. The auction was won by Paul McCartney with a bid of ₤2,310. Mark Lewisohn stated in the special edition of Tune In: The Beatles: All These Years: Volume 1 that he heard the tapes prior to the sale and the quality "was so atrocious it was hard to make out which songs were being played” but not so bad that the setlist on the tape could not be deciphered:

Words of Love
What's Your Name*
Roll Over Beethoven
Ask Me Why
The Hippy Hippy Shake
Til There Was You
Hey! Baby*
If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody*
Please Mister Postman
Sharing You*
Your Feet's Too Big
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
I Forgot to Remember to Forget
Matchbox
I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate
Memphis, Tennessee
Young Blood
Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)

* No other Beatles version is known to exist.

Perhaps Peter Jackson can make something of it?

If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody is a jam! would love The Beatles trying that, because of the harmonica maybe Harrison would take lead vocal? also a 1962 Dizzy Lizzy sounds great!
