Re: The Beatles (TV series) 1965-67 [39 Cartoon Episodes]
Around 2002 if memory serves me. There was also a special psychedelic recolouring of the "Penny Lane" promo. I've checked the Wayback, but it seems the Quicktime videos weren't captured.bobzilla wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 9:22 pmDo you remember approximately when it was? It might sill be on the WayBackMachine.therowdyman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:06 pm Did anyone capture the flash animations used on the old thebeatles.com site? It's the only time Apple have officially acknowledged the 1960s cartoon.
Edit: I've discovered Ruffle, so I can view some of those old flash games (I found the "All You Need Is Love" paperfolding flash). All looking at some of the older 30 second promo shorts they uploaded to promote 1 on the old site.

A couple of things though, I do not recall any of those intros, or the outro, and I saw these quite a bit back in the day. Wonder if they were different for different markets. The third intro was really interesting, and certainly a bit more adult-like in ways.
Regarding the cartoons in general, even as a kid I found the cartoon parts in general to be a bit lame, but I watched them all the same for the songs, as being from small town midwest I didn't exactly have regular access to most of this stuff. There were no record stores for miles, I had no money to buy records with even if I had the sense to do so at that early age, and what little radio I listened to not a lot of those songs got played much, if at all. So these cartoons were really my very first introduction to many of the songs.
As a side note Windows Media Legacy will play the video, but not the audio on these (on my laptop). Had to use the VLC media player to get any audio.
The intros (Can't Buy Me Love-1st season, Help!-2nd season, and And Your Bird Can Sing-3rd season) and outro (AHDN) should have been the same for all the U.S. ABC stations that broadcast the shows in the 60's. When MTV ran the episodes in 1986 and 1987, they only showed the AYBCS opening and the final bit of credits. The AYBCS is my favorite of the openings, with the photos of the 1967 era Beatles prominently used. In that regard, the Strawberry Fields cartoon from that season is one of my favorites of the episodes. As a trivia note, you have the brief appearance of John wearing his "granny glasses" in the SF toon.
As a child watching the shows on the ABC San Francisco affiliate (KGO), I also was hearing Beatles songs in the toons I wasn't familiar with through local AM radio airplay. Paperback Writer, Any Time At All, Wait, and so many other songs were that way.
The cartoon series was one of the many things that gave me my lifelong love of The Beatles music. If you want to learn more about the show, check out Mitch Axelrod's book, Beatletoons.
