Also searching hard for FAB CD / DVD releases (solo ones are priority). Ready to trade FAB DVDs with those who trades.

Thanks LR. Much prefer the single-tracked vocal, it's more intimate.

Can't wait to hear this!
I see could the "Herb Albert" horns working for "Borrowed Time". Would have completed that song nicely.

Here is a third mix. Sunnylew gave me the idea for this and I've used John vocals from two different takes to create a superior double tracked version. See what you think...

I still get a bit teary when I hear John sing "Whatever fate decrees". No one could ever have forseen such a terrible fate.

Very well done as always!

I just wonder whether something can be done with EQ (etc.) to reduce the tinny and biting telephone quality of the vocals? This plagued Free As A Bird and Real Love (CVs) as well.

I did try, but it's poorly recorded so there's a limit. You could revoice it using sovits but then it would be a robot and not John.

I've been having a play with John's voice, and found that there's a large bump in the frequencies around 1.6 kHz which when pulled back makes him sound less boxy. What I'd like to do is apply EQ matching to his vocal only, but I can't think of a well recorded vocal of his where he uses his head voice like this. I'd be glad for any ideas out there.

Part of the strange sound of his voce (apart of course from the way it was recorded) is that he's not performing. We're used to him giving his best in most takes - even guide vocals - in the studio, but this is him singing for himself.

The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate the vulnerability in his voice here. I feel like he's still in those feelings here, whereas in a finished recording he's recalling and performing those feelings.

I hope to have my own version uploaded in a day or so. My attempt at what a solid version of the demo, with a little studio polish.
