Has anyone heard the Cavern ‘Misery’ recording from Evolver 63 yet?

Post by MarkRJones1970 »

Titles says it all. What’s it like? Whats the quality like? Is there anything else on the tape with it? What’s the story behind it? Does Mark Lewishon say how it surfaced and where it’s been hiding?

I’m going to Evolver in Salford soon so I’ll hear it then but I’m excited. We didn’t know this existed.

Has anyone managed to sneak a recording yet?

He only played the first two verses but the words are totally different. "I'm the kind of girl / Who used to know the world" and I can't make out the rest. It was recorded at the cavern along with Love Of The Loved as a demo for Shapiro but her manager didn't think it suited her image (she was the girl who sang "Walking back To Happiness" after all!)

I think by conflating a few different audience recordings it should be possible to make a good version. Stay tuned.

Don't count on it being in the Salford show. I went to the second London show with Johnny Marr and it wasn't even mentioned.

That's unfortunate, however, it was played at the 3rd London show with Harry Hill.

It's mentioned in "Tune In", isn't it? I've known about it for years (and I presumed many of us here did), but if it's not in the book, then Lewisohn must have talked about it in one of his interviews.

Here it is from a stereo audience recording:

Obviously an acetate not a tape, but quite good quality. Lyrics not so hot though!
