I think for my collection, I'm going to make this Take 39 or even 37 with that trace outline (that was kool).
Looks better there anyway with the tape box.

Can you all imagine whats never been released before take 28 and from the 30s to the 60s...might be some more ad libs in all those remaining I WIll takes...
The beginning of the SDE version is known to be doctored/ edited. The original beginning is on the Barrett tapes.

Can you share that Barrett version? I would like to compare and do some merging, etc...appears I cannot find my Barrett archives -

even the SDE books which documents most items in recording order, suddenly they go backward to Take 19, and after that the time order resumes past the 30s LOLOL So the EMITAPE box puts Take 19 after the takes in the 30s and so does the book - odd coincidences.

Further to my comments (page 2) reading the physical SDE I spotted this box:
https://i.postimg.cc/xTywbXcd/20230211-104453.jpg
Same chalk 2249, top right 1069, 70550, but dated 7 Oct 68, so this must indicate when clerically this tape was eventually dealt with.
Interesting to compare the handwriting with both boxes.
After thumbing between the pages i'm certain the handwriting is by Mike Sheady as he uses slashes for his 7s wheras John Smith is a slightly curved but solid 7. And looking at the box Mike's pen has a bit of a issue then compounded making a correction and 'make do' with it as well so no wonder it's a crappy 39. See next reply.

Cracked it - it's take 39
Mike Sheady uses
an L with a slash for his 7s, and a Y hook for his 9s
You can see it in Lewishons Sessions
of Mike's recording sheets 16, 18 sep and 7 Oct.
White Album SDE - boxes 70549, 70450, rec sheets 26 sep and 7 Oct.
You can see he made an effort to make a 9 despite a stubborn pen, plus he's got a habit of getting the bad pen in all his noted examples even the 7 Oct he must have pen strife with a dying blue pen then borrowed a black and back to a better (or worse) blue.
Proof - i used a luope and printed books

nice! yeah - the 9 is not a 7 as you can see that curl he did in the number 9.

if it was 19 it would have been discovered sooner and listed above Step Inside Love.
the SDE book doesn't list it before either - it lists the song in it's correct spot.

does anyone have the Barrett - Can You Take Me Back full " I want to hear this take number.

I heard the take number before The Way You look tonight...

the 9 matches the same curl - so let's look at the digit before - is it a 1 or a 3?

If anyone's got Lifting Latches got page 175 and that explains things.
Can You Take Me Back was take 19 but that first tape goes up to take 29. The second box from 30 to 50ish but probably in the 20s hes splatters way off course and I bet John probably went into party mode as well and Ringo just observed the madness or joined too, George was not present. (Makes you wonder what he missed out on!) Take 39 and 40 were false starts but something in Take 39 must have been very significant so only CYTMB from the first tape and the 2nd 'party' tape were excised, 30 down in Havana, 34 to 36 and 39 and probably various chat from both tapes were copied or excised for this tape explaining the various dates comment.

check it out - even JOhn Barrett lists the songs in the same recording order - if Can you Take Me Back was Take 19 it would be listed BEFORE the other 3 before it - ON THE EMITAPE, THE SDE BOOK and other sources.

this source too that include Havana - each song in it;s presented order as it was on the EMITAPE - Can you Take ME Back would not be suddenly named take 19 after the last Take 35 - so I' getting this John Barret version to see if I actually here 'take 19' called before the song...

this is so much fun - but what are we going to do - tell EMI and all the sources before that for decades - that having it as Take 19 is wrong? LOL right!!!! EMI SDE release just references past material and didn't bother to QUESTION it's placement and see if this was a handwriting issue. I have yet to hear Take 19 called.
