Thanks for the replies -

I always thought Can You Take Me Back was Take 19 until I saw the box.

Let's say it is Take 19 - why would it be listed on the box AFTER the Takes in the 30s? If 19, it would be at the top.

As for the production sheet about Various Ad Libs - let's look at the INK on the box...
The original ink is lighter that shows the tape number, band, various adlibs, and the info at the bottom (speed, dates, etc).

Looks like someone later came back to the tape and wrote more details using a darker ink to try and find significant items.

In any case - based on the items listed before Can You Take Me Back being IN ORDER of their performance - I cannot accept that Can You Take Me Back was listed at the bottom as Take 19...if it was found later while listening, they would have added it later with an arrow or marking at the top before the items in the 30s...

Also the LACK of noted I WILL TAKES on the box tells me this box does not contain the KEY TAKES used to produce the FINAL I WILL recording. It was probably blank in the beginning with ONLY the comment VARIOUS AD LIBS. LATER, someone re-listened to the tape to find items that could be released on something like ANTHOLOGY, etc...and wrote more details in the remaining area. The ink is definitely different.

My goal is not to agree or disagree with anyone, but to propose there is more here than meets the eye. The production sheet after checking, does not solidify any answer to what is on the box. It merely states Ad Libs - as the main I WILL items listed are on other tapes BEFORE and AFTER this E70549 - but we don;t have pics of those boxes.

FUN STUFF!

NOW let me clarify this list I first posted - after discussion and reviewing production sheets

68-09.16a - I Will (Take 1)(false start)
68-09.16b - I Will (Take 1)
68-09.16c - I Will (Take 12-13)(false start)(rattle them skulls)
THESE items would not be on E70549....as there would not be enough recording space.

What is the Tape number that goes here that has Takes after 13 and before 28?

beginning of E70549? VARIOUS AD LIBS
68-09.16e - Blue Moon (jam)(Take28-I Will)
68-09.16f - I Will (Take 29)('I Won't' ending)
68-09.16g - Down In Havana (jam)(Take 30-I Will)(repaired)
68-09.16h - Step Inside Love (jam)(Take 34-I Will)(repaired)
68-09.16i - Los Paranoias (jam)(Take 35-I Will)
68-09.16j - The Way You Look Tonight (jam)(Take 36-I Will)
68-09.16d - Can You Take Me Back (jam)(Take 39-I Will) (changed form usual Take 19 listing)

I love that - a SEVEN! IT MAKES SENSE AS THE TAPE NUMBER HAS A & IN THAT STYLE TOO! and it falls in order as I believe all items listed below VARIOUS AD LIBS were written in later - if you look at the ink. The ink of VARIOUS AD LIBS being thinner and lighter matches the technical info also on the box (tape number, speed, artist, date, etc)...then someone went back later and listed the items in between! Can You Take Me Back was in that additional writing and used on the white album...the other stuff wasn;t used, but later released because Barrett and the Anthology folks saw it and used it.

The "Various Adlibs" tape is just a compilation of material from other tapes. The fact that "take 19" is out of order simply means they didn't listen to the tapes in sequence when they were going through them to pull the interesting adlibs.

I redone this line and refer to my page 3 comments. But below the other 2 factors were at play during this night.

Lewishon Chroncles book also (but not in his Sessions book) notes between 2:30 - 530 a separate job was to create a tape copy of random old mono masters, x 20 this night (then totalling 50 more over 2 more dates) so 16 sep might have been a busy Monday night.
Note this 1069 on the red box is also on the dated 24 Sep which was the third and final completion of this job. See image

Also this evening 2 quick overdubs were added to Glass Onion at the end of this session so obviously staff organisation was very intense for all these jobs.

But now thing's get crossed up as I looked into John C Wynn's Lifting Latches and logs 50749 as 7 Oct 68 but I supposed this is when tape was audited or whenever back then. But then go to page 175 and tape 70375 takes 30 34 35 & 36 was noted "cut onto 70459" and John documents that takes 30 to 55 were on the 70375. Now there's a puzzle to assemble.

I just hear the guitar strum start - no talking. The anniversary set says this is the complete version...
I think for my collection, I'm going to make this Take 39 or even 37 with that trace outline (that was kool).
Looks better there anyway with the tape box.

Can you all imagine whats never been released before take 28 and from the 30s to the 60s...might be some more ad libs in all those remaining I WIll takes...
