The Beatles did their fourth and final appearance on English comedy duo Mike and Bernie Winters’ weekly variety TV series “Blackpool Night Out” on 1st August 1965, broadcast live across the nation from the ABC TV Theatre in the Lancashire seaside resort of Blackpool. This was The Beatles’ only UK promotion of their then No.1 single “Help!” and their new LP of the same name released the following week. The theatre audience were asked not to scream during the songs - a stark contrast to the constant screeching girls at the US stadium gigs. This complete “Blackpool Night Out” TV show - in which the group also appeared in comedy skits with Mike and Bernie - is now presumed lost, but audio of their complete 17-minute song performance has survived. Depsite having to fix constant sound balance issues baked into this TV broadcast, this has always been my favourite live performance of the group due to the power and energy of their playing and singing. I’ve remixed the complete mono setlist into Stereo for a more involving, immersive experience. No karaoke overdubs of course, just 100% BEATLES BLACKPOOL LIVE ’65!
