Re: Unicorn - Lost/Unreadable Discs + Newer Titles
I have had great success with removing the labels to rip discs to my hard drive. I use a bowl of warm water, put a single disc in and let it sit for 5-10 minutes so the water is fully absorbed into the label. Then I'll take out the disc and still wet, will lay it on a paper towel and start to scrape the label off with my fingernail. I don't try and get all the adhesive off (usually impossible), I just try and get most/all the paper off and whatever adhesive I can with just using water, no other solvents (sometimes I have to dip the disc 2 or 3 times. I can then dry the disc off with the paper towel and place it in my CD reader and USUALLY I can get a rip off the disc. After, I check the files to make sure there are no errors or ''rot'' sound and then I toss the disc. Yes, it's time consuming but if you really want the music on the disc, its worth it. Try it.paulramon wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 7:52 pm Long story short, I was one of the folks that enjoyed printing out nice colorful labels and carefully affixing them to my collection. This was before it was considered a big "no no", as no one knew the damage that these labels could cause.
I literally have thousands of discs that have been rendered useless. So, needless to say, I'm somewhat heartbroken at the lost music. It was so much fun collection all of the different labels, along with their nuances over the years.
