Sorry, but we have had a run on the wigs. We will, however, send you a fun Sir Joseph Lockwood mask in its place. Be the life of the party!Kwai Chang wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 4:16 pm I am enclosing extra bank notes to cover the costs of postage and handling for an additional Lord Reith Wig which I would like you to send to 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood c/o Giles Martin! Just listening to these now. These are great. I really love the sound of Paul's bass on Rain! Thank you.

Thanks guys.
Yeah I was thinking just how revolutionary it was. Very high notes, almost not like a bass at all.20YearsAgo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2022 12:58 am I really love the sound of Paul's bass on Rain! Thank you.

Re: TAXMAN (revised mix + Rain + more)
Here's a couple more:
- Paperback Writer
- You Won't See Me
I've done both these before but improved separation means better mixes. I love Ringo's drum fills on the latter, and Paul's guitar on the former is just blistering!

Great again - Thank you.
Most of my links are to OneDrive. However, OneDrive does impose a download limit and when this is reached displays a message that the files are deleted or have expired. Leave it a while and try again later.

I was listening to your great demixes, LR, thinking the same thing and wondering what the secret was.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2022 6:35 am Thanks guys.

Then I found this on a bass website called "No Treble":
https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2014/06/0 ... ck-writer/
It reports:
'Mark Lewisohn’s book The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions quotes Beatles’ engineer Geoff Emerick as saying the song was “was the first time the bass sound had been heard in all its excitement. Paul McCartney played a different bass, a Rickenbacker. Then we boosted it further by using a loudspeaker as a microphone. We positioned it directly in front of the bass speaker and the moving diaphragm of the second speaker made the electric current”.'
And to illustrate the effect of this procedure there's this handy clip:
48 seconds in the bass does a marvellous thing. The bass note seems to naturally morph into an upper octave harmonic. Is it something that a Rickenbacker naturally does or was it caused by a feedback effect from the use of the loudspeaker as a microphone?
There are other moments like this when higher octave harmonic seem to sing through. Perhaps any bass guitar experts out there can shine some light on whether Rickenbackers are known for this.
Anyway, thank you, Lord Reith, for bringing attention to Paul's bass - one of my favourite Beatles topics. Love the bass in your Taxman demix too, especially those runs at the 55 second mark. Genius!
