Re: Concert at Budokan 1966 DVD (VAP LaserDisc) +
The Budokan concert was recorded using three RCA TK-41 television cameras. The distorted footage of the front view is due to the telephoto lenses attached to the TK-41. RCA TK-41 cameras on both sides were moved horizontally, with the camera dollies set up in the arena of the Budokan.cliftdean74 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 2:30 pm The occasional but persistent lens distortion on The Beatles Budokan concerts has always been very distracting
to me. Especially in the wide shots of the stage where Ringo’s bass drum looks more oval than round. Not every
shot looks elongated so I’m assuming different focal lengths of the NTV camera lenses may have been the issue.
Maybe someone who knows more about it than I do can chime in.
When the 1964 Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to be held, NTV installed RCA's colour VTR equipment to broadcast the Olympics in colour, so the Budokan concert was also recorded using this equipment.
Incidentally, the 1984 release on VHS is much better picture quality than this laserdisc.

Thanks so much for the information! I did a transfer of the 1984 VHS also which I'll be uploading in the near future. Currently I'm going through all the laserdisc transfers first for those that are interested in them.TAKRL wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 2:41 pmThe Budokan concert was recorded using three RCA TK-41 television cameras. I'd love to see that 1984 VHS release I've noticed that the two clips in Anthology are actually of pretty decent quality (Rock And Roll Music, Yesterday). Also, I just did a bunch of fixing of the "Live At Budokan 1966 (Multiband Remaster)" DVD files, if anybody is interested. The closeups in the Multiband Remaster look really fantastic.
