*upgrade to 32/96*: AHDN UA MONO TAPE

Trying to retransfer the whole recording at 24/192 (vs. just the two tracks I'd posted last week), for some reason?, seemed to compress the mono signal into being too "wet" and "liquid-sounding"; like the dynamics became too stretched out.

So, I downsampled it to 32/96 and -voila!- THAT fattened everything up by itself without monkeying-around with excessive EQ (as well as: masking any phase problems of playing a half-track tape on a quarter-track playback head).

There was serious strategizing at work when Capitol cobbled the albums for U.S. consumers. This album was still uniquely American...albeit via United Artists. A Hard Day's Night was really no worse than Capitol's HELP LP. BUT, there is something MISSING on this album. The craft of cobbling Beatles albums isn't just a matter of including great songs...
I wonder what kind of album Capitol would have created.

Wasn't the stereo version of AHDN soundtrack (UAS 6366) essentially mono (or duophonic) for the Beatles tracks anyway? I'm probably wrong, but I thought I'd read somewhere that United Artists wasn't given the stereo mixes, just the mono mixes which they re-channeled to their version of 'duophonic' (of course the instrumentals were definitely in stereo on UAS 6366)...

I checked the title song in Audacity from the DESS Stereo version and it looks stereo to me, but so close to mono it might be a fake stereo.

yes it's true there is no real Stereo of this record, should have the original album cover for confirmation!
