It's when you adjust the orientation of the playback head with a screwdriver. If it's not adjusted properly, one channel will lag slightly and they will not fold down to mono without phasing. In fact, that's how you do the adjustment: you monitor in mono while turning the screw until you get maximum output and no phasing.

In the digital domain, you delete samples from the lagging track to make it align. Some recordings have wandering alignment in which case you use software that continuously aligns them on the go.

There's actual two different treatments of these tapes: one by Remasters Workshop and the other by Masterjedi (Bare It All).

Thoose Were The Days I remember using a Screwdriver (not the drink) in the mid sixties when adjusting the heads level on my newly bought G36(a Tape recorder made by Revox for you how was born later).
Improved the sound as I remember.
