(John Lennon) Smashing It

Post by MrP »

This Lord Reith collection was mention in this topic
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1238
a member mention that he had never seen it nor knew of it and thus wanted a re-up
rather than just post it within some irrelevant topic I thought i would create one for it

NOTES FROM ORIGINAL SHARE
To commemorate 80 years since John's birth I've made this personal tribute to him, gathering together some of his performances with The Beatles that show
why he was not only a brilliant songwriter but one of the best singers of our time. Nobody could sing like John, or ever will again!

Many of these are remixes I made myself and while I don't profess that they replace the originals, I hope they add a bit of novelty to this rather
eclectic collection. Happy 80th John!

Lord Reith (October 2020)

(By the way, for those who don't know, "smashing it" means to go for it and get a great result).

To commemorate 80 years since John's birth, I've created this tribute set of some of his finest vocal moments and best songs with The Beatles.
Right since I first heard John sing, his voice spoke to me like no other vocalist has ever done since.
Aside from just its uniquely appealing tonality, there is a forcefulness and power in his singing which no one else has ever quite achieved,
whether it be belting out raw rock and roll or intoning the gentlest of ballads. There's something in the way he sings which just speaks to people's hearts.

So if you fancy some two hours of John at his best, take a listen to this weird and wonderful collection of John smashing it,
ranging from his favourite rock and roll covers to his best and most famous songs; most of them are single track vocals or outtakes
which highlight that almost accidental quality of plaintive rawness he was so good at capturing. Many of these are remixes
I've done myself where I've deliberately tried to highlight that very quality. John was great, and listening to him here I'm sure you'll agree!
Happy 80th John! We miss you!
