8-tracks

Post by mitchellmichael »

Has anyone digitized the 8-track carts by any chance? As in the case of The 13th Floor Elevators, those can sometimes be revelatory in terms of stereo mix. Thanks!
Cheers

A silly question but can you play 1 track on a 8 track tape?

yymca6,

This Sgt. Pepper 8 track rip is only in stereo, do you have the quad rip of it?

Thanks, Rog

that's all solo material, not Beatles. I appreciate it though!

I've been trying to get some interest going on this for years.

There's seems to be zero interest in digitizing and sharing 8 track albums. I've joined numerous Facebook groups and the response to the idea was deafening...deafeningly silent.

Being in the UK the format was never big so it is difficult for me to get hold of the tapes myself. I have one Beatles cartridge with one of the unique 'split' tracks that I would like to hear just to see how and where they split the track. But that tape is broken and even if I learnt to mend it (they generally come apart at the metal splice) the only player I have is very hissy...so probably needs some components renewed. I was ready to go the trouble on both points if interest from others had been received.

It seems shortsighted as these tapes will eventually degrade and so digital would be the way to preserve them...maybe the collectors are digitizing but just not sharing??

This does seem to be the only one that does the rounds. Courtesy of the unique version of the reprise at the end. Listen to it and you will hear that it's an awful splice job done to extend the run time of Program 4. But it is unique so me must have it right?!
