Off the top of your head, what other albums are badly out of sync that that process can improve?

All the Beatles albums are slightly out of sync between the left and right channels but only like one digital sample in time. A few tracks are like 2 samples out of sync. This is not actually the same as phase though IIRC.

I have a question on this topic.

As I understand it, tape heads in the LA studio used for overdubs and mixing were slightly misaligned from the NY studio where basic tracks were recorded. So when mixed in LA, the RAM tracks combined out-of-phase basic tracks with in-phase overdubs. These are baked in to the master tape.

How is it possible for AA to correct *only* the out-of-phase basic tracks (move one channel by four samples) without throwing the overdubs out of phase?

Thanks.

The people at Adobe built a tool just for that purpose. It uses math to bring out-of-phase tape transfers into perfect phase. I hope those people got a raise!

If it was recorded a long time ago, on tape, chances are that the deck that transferred it to digital was not aligned to the same place as the deck that recorded the tape. Since 2009, I have done this procedure on hundreds of records transferred to CD by the major labels. Gordon Lightfoot's UA catalogue, uncountable singles on compilations, it's random. Some are fine, some are way off. Bootlegs, definitely. "Rude Studio Demos" sounds a lot better after phase correction. Unsurpassed Masters, Ultra Rare Trax, you name it. The speed of each deck in a chain is a tad faster or slower than the previous one, but this isn't about that topic. But it's what I found by going underneath the hood on everything since Audition v.3.
