Hi, LR

Nice to have you back!

I'm not so sure the '87 U.S. is the best source for the White Album. There's a glitch 2:20 into "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" and the cues are off for the beginning of "Bungalow Bill," "Don't Pass Me By" and "Revolution 9." These were fixed for both the Disque Americ Canadian pressing and 30th Anniversary CD.

Glitch at the start of Helter Skelter too.

Reviewing that "(1965) Rubber Soul (Disque Americ pressing 1989) 24/44" I downloaded, the waveform is EXACTLY like that of the 2009 Digital Remaster, USB Limited Edition, 24/44, so it's probably web junk. Whereas the Parl. C2 46440 versions seems legit.

Phil_Lip, are you referring to that slight click in one channel right after the 1st note in HS?
I don't hear it on the vinyl, so I'm presuming that's it. Unfortunately, the click is on the U.S., Canadian AND 30th Anniversary CDs.

Judging by the title and date of this upload, this might be the Canadian CD: alas, no seeders or leechers for this (but someone here may well have this on their HDD).

Hey guv! You made it!
I'm not so sure the '87 U.S. is the best source for the White Album. There's a glitch 2:20 into "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" and the cues are off for the beginning of "Bungalow Bill," "Don't Pass Me By" and "Revolution 9." I'm starting to wonder if DA might be the best option for ALL the 87 cds. CD mastering had moved on even in the few short years between 1987 and 1990. The Cinram discs (which the matrix says were glass mastered in November 1995) might be even better. But the Cinram ones are even rarer than the DA.

The thing which confuses me about this whole business is that the printout that came with the Rubber Soul tape provided to DA was prepared with PQ coding in April 1990. PQ coding is a data channel on the tape which contains the positions of the track masters, song lengths and other stuff necessary for cutting a cd glass master. So this is not the actual tape that was sent to Capitol in 1987. It is a cd master prepared by O. Murphy. The fact that you say the DA White Album has track markers in different spots also confirms that PQ coding was added in 1990 - they cannot have used the same PQ master as in 1987.

So where did Capitol get the tape needed to assemble the PQ master in 1990? Did they get it from EMI in London? Was it EMI who sent the wrong tape? Did Capitol discard or lose the original tapes they had been sent in 1987? Are the discrepancies in RS, Help, RE, PPM and WTB due to someone in the Abbey Road tape library accessing the wrong tapes?

I checked one of the tracks on the DA Revolver against the regular cd, and they completely cancel out to nothing except for the ending where the Canadian one has extra audio. So they must be the same transfer, just one is faded early.
