No it is the side channels of the stereo so not center but what is at the sides. It is confusing but works

Easiest way to get a 'no strings' version is to just use the right channel of the 1987 mix (though the first verse sounds better folded).

I haven't listened to yours but using only the sides should give you mainly acoustic guitar and strings.

For the yesterday one I extracted the center not the sides it was the wind instruments I extracted the sides.
