Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video with us, Lord.

Thanks so much Lord. I remember when all these wonderful things that you have given us were way beyond reach. When video tapes first came around, the first of the unreleased Beatles films started appearing in collectors circles they were hard to get a hold of. I made deals to get the Ed Sullivan Shows, the Paris Concert, etc. and it wasn’t easy. I was in contact with a collector in NYC who knew someone who had the Royal Varity Performance but it wasn’t for trade, only for sale. The price: $10,000.
And it was tinted green!

Thanks LR! Peak Beatles!
I wonder if you could dirty up the audio a bit to better match the video.

Thanks guys glad you enjoyed it. This is certainly a unique performance. I would think that many other bands stripped of their adoring teenage audience would find this challenging. And in front of an audience dressed in monkey suits to boot. The fact that they could win over an audience like this in the space of ten minutes shows just how great they were as entertainers.
Hard to believe that Lennon is the same guy who sang with a skiffle band at a fete only six years earlier. And there he is with his Rickenbacker in his trademark stance as one of the greatest and most recognisable visual icons of the sixties, belting out Twist And Shout before the Queen Mother. What a man.

The picture is a bit ropey isn't it? Lots of interlacing lines which are burnt into the actual film print. ATV sure weren't as good at transferring video to film as the BBC. Still, remarkable that it survives at all.masterjedi wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 8:27 pm Thanks LR! Peak Beatles!

Holy cow! I can remember hearing John's jewellry comment in "the days In their Life" radio special in 1982, and in the Compleat Beatles. In that video they inserted the Manchester concert as visuals, and i couldn't understand why there were hysterical screaming girls at such an event! Fast forward many, many years and goosebumps went up my spine as I sat down to watch Anthology on tv and the REAL video came up! I'd had no idea it even existed.jgjohnson wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 7:09 pm Thanks so much Lord. I remember when all these wonderful things that you have given us were way beyond reach.
