Are you using a subharmonic plugin or something similar using psychoacoustic enhancement like Waves Renaissance?
I rarely use bass exciters/extenders as these can sometimes add frequencies or harmonics that are not originally present on the mono originals and I also never add anything extra, such as reverb or echo, to cover up any artefacts from the mono-to-stereo conversion. If I hear any artefacts I try again until I eliminate them. Press the 'mono' button on my mixes and you should hear the recordings sound just like the mono originals. Only more hi-fi and with better EQ. As for Soldier Of Love all I did was add a ton of low EQ and heavy limiting to the bass guitar and bass drum stems purely to beef up the tinny, peaky mono original, and to make the performance sound like you're in the room as they perform it. I'm glad you liked my stereo mix - I'm working on a few more songs from the BBC CDs and I"ll upload the package to this group as soon as I am 100% happy with them.
