Rutland Weekend Television Complete (Rutles)

Post by twogurusindrag »

Rutland Weekend Television (RWT) was a television sketch show written by Eric Idle with music by Neil Innes. Two series were broadcast on BBC2, the first consisting of six episodes in 1975, and the second series of seven episodes in 1976. A Christmas special was broadcast on Boxing Day 1975.

The Rutles were foreshadowed in episode 3 of Eric Idle's 1975 BBC television series Rutland Weekend Television, in which Neil Innes accompanied himself on a piano singing what later became the song "Good Times Roll" (included on the Rutles' first, self-titled album in 1978).

The Rutles themselves first appeared in a sketch later in 1975, which presented a mock mini-documentary about the fictional 1960s band. The sketch featured Neil Innes (formerly of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and a frequent Monty Python collaborator) fronting the band, singing "I Must Be in Love", a pastiche of Lennon and McCartney's 1964 style.

George Harrison made a guest appearance on Rutland Weekend Television's 1975 Boxing Day special, with Idle and Innes, and he encouraged them to make a film that would parody the Beatles' career and serve to deflate the myths surrounding the band's legacy.

I found this online and am reposting. I did not rip/etc.

She's a drag. A well-known drag. We turn the sound down on her and say rude things.

I remuer seeing one episode or 2 while traveling to England in May 1976. We laughed so hard and never heard of that afterwards. It was probably a replay of the Kung-Fu episode as I remember a sketch with some sort of karate stuff.

Never thought that would be connected to The Rutles until a few years ago.

I remember watching these at the time. They came off the back of Monty Python (the last series without Cleese) and was generally dissapointing. They weren't a patch on Python in my opinion.

I remember downloading these around 2006 or 2007. The files I have are larger in size but I haven't had a chance to compare them yet. I made two really cool compilations of the show that are spot on hilarious, but I ditched a lot of Neil Innes songs in the process.

EDIT: I checked these out and they seem like a minor upgrade (maybe?) but in this case these files are MP4 whereas my previous files were AVI. I'll check further later tonight to see what the differences are,
