Any UK reel2reel recordings out there?

Post by PaulMcJohn »

Did anybody ever copy some of the british reel2reel tapes to digital format?

As far as I've read, although these were copied with a speed of 3 3/4 ips, some could sound quite good.
And they were release in mono and stereo, too. Way better than some of the fake stereo reels of Capitol / Ampex.

It would be interesting to here some of these reels, at least from a technical point of view.

What a nice surprise, Yves. I hadn't even dreamt that there would be any material of the UK reels in circulation.
Thank you very much for sharing these gems.

The elusive one which unfortunately doesn't circulate, is Abbey Road (TA-PMC 7088).

Why would that be so special? Because of being a Mono release? I would assume this is merely a fold-down of the Stereo edition.
Or isn't it?

There is a kind of general consensus it is a folddown of the stereo, like the UK mono Let It Be tape, although for the film true mono mixes were done from the multitracks of the songs Let it be, The long and winding road and Two of us.
