John Lennon recorded this demo around May 31st, 1963 just days after the Beatles had finished a two-month concert tour across England with Roy Orbison and Gerry & The Pacemakers. For this demo recording John double-tracked his vocal and acoustic guitar, and on June 26th the song was recorded at EMI Abbey Road by Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas (produced by George Martin with Paul McCartney in attendance). The Parlophone single became Billy’s first UK number one selling over a million copies. John's original mono demo finally surfaced in 1984 in the form of the acetate disc originally made for the Beatles music publisher Dick James.
I’ve cleaned up the rather harsh lo-fi sound and converted the demo into two different stereo mixes. My first mix has John’s guitars in stereo, and my second mix has guitars to the left and vocals to the right. See which one you prefer!
