It reminds me of those tape drives that can store over 800TB of info per tape. I remembered this PBS show in the late 90s talking about this scientist trying to make a laser blue so they can make more storage in the discs, which it eventually became Blu-Ray. Really neat and scary on how much info can fit into such a small space.

I wonder how the research is going on a project I read about way last decade, where scientists were able to successfully store one bit of digital information in a light beam.

I remember reading in the 1970's when 12 inches of vinyl held 45 minutes of music that there would be computer chips the size of a postage stamp that would contain a whole album. Seemed far fetched at the time.

And what will all this new technology be used for I wonder?

For advancing the state of the human race?

Or for - as is nearly always the case - for creating better weapons, deeper surveilance and bigger profits for a tiny priesthood of technical elites?

I suspect it will be the latter - again.
