Burning tiff files to Audio CD

Post by FileUnderT »

A friend gave me some audio to copy to CD. I wanted to burn these .aiff files to an audio CD and play them on a standard CD player or car stereo player. I used Express Burn to drag the files and selected AudioCD to burn them but the CDs won't play. They play on my Mac mini desktop computer but not on any conventional CD player. Anyone know what is going on here please?

Your CD burner cannot convert the aiff files! You can either give the program a corresponding add-on, or you can convert the files yourself to .wav using some converter (e.g. Foobar) and then burn the CD.

That seem like a very sensible solution to my problem, thank you so much!

This time the burner was able to burn my converted files but the finished cd skips? Is my cheap cd writer the issue?

Are you burning at max speed? That may be the issue if you are. Try burning at 2x and see if the skipping persists.

Are the converted files the correct spec (44.1 / 16) ?
If they aren't, the burning program is having to convert the files on the fly. If so, convert again, making sure they're 44.1 / 16 then try again.

Convert to WAV first.

Otherwise your program is doing more work than it needs to.

I know older or slower computers will trip on too much processing while it's trying to burn.

I Converted the files, used Express Burn to create an audio CD and when played on a stereo CD player it still skips through the tracks. I bought a new CD/DVD writer and it does exactly the same. So what's happening that my Mac mini M1 isn't able copy or create an audio CD.

It could have to do with the age of your equipment. Before a certain time, standalone CD players would not play CD-Rs without skipping, because the lasers couldn't properly read them. Home players adapted a "multi-read" standard since the advent of the CD-R, while older players still won't play them.

My computer is the latest Apple Mac mini with M1 processor and an external DVD/CD Writer.
