Ray was great. So was I Walk The Line. But finding four actors to play The Beatles convincingly, I think that will be an order of magnitude more difficult. It's not just finding four actors, it's finding four actors who can reproduce the chemistry.

Re: Four New Films!
I rmember when I saw Backbeat in the cinema that in the first scene where the actor who played McCartney appeared, people actually burst into laughter in the theatre. Apparently the only thing the casting people cared about was getting the eyebrows right.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 9:30 pm Ray was great. So was I Walk The Line. Don't get me started on Backbeat. That was just the worst piece of garbage since The Buddy Holly Story. They managed to make a biographical movie in which they got every important detail wrong. John singing Lucille? Come on.

And then the reviews came and I saw at least two saying that one point against it was that you saw the Beatles but they never sang any of their famous songs
It was a movie about their first two Hamburg residencies. They had not written "their famous songs". That was the freaking point.

Yeah, that's why the Star Club tape is a non starter in my view. It just wouldn't sell, because nobody knows those songs.Spaniard in da Works wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:59 pm And then the reviews came and I saw at least two saying that one point against it was that you saw the Beatles but they never sang any of their famous songs

The main problem with depicting The Beatles is that they were deadpan. They were not demonstrative people. It's all black humour. And even on stage, they didn't do any of the things that normal performers do because the charisma was so great that they did not need to wiggle their asses or smash their guitars. So when actors try to depict them, the jokes always fall flat and they just look boring on stage, because nobody can reproduce that charisma.
I'm hoping this time it'll be different. But hope dies hard.

My confidence is low on these films. Hoping for the best but expecting very little. I'd settle for one good film than 4 giving it 4 times more chance to suck

I'd definitely want that period to have it's own part lol.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:51 am Anything prior to 1962 would be dealt with only in flashbacks, thus avoiding having to deal with awkward subjects like "crips", Pete Best, Nazi salutes, pissing on nuns and woman-bashing which modern audiences would recoil from in horror.

It's a shame, The Beatle's story has a bit of everything but I get your point, distorting history through distorted 21st century eyes does seem to be all the rage right now. Even the fact that people used to smoke in pubs and clubs would offend somebody!

Re: Four New Films!
Yes this concerns me too. Like when they rewrote all Roald Dahl's books, completely butchering them. They will certainly not show them smoking. And I expect they will go for an idealised view of them, kind of like the Beatles Cartoon. I cringe when I see young people on the internet saying what "bad people" the Beatles were... yeah, sonny, like you're so perfect sitting there wanking over your internet porn and piling onto someone on twitter. So they may get portrayed as perfect human beings if Apple have their hands all over it.Choking Smoker wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 9:52 amdistorting history through distorted 21st century eyes does seem to be all the rage right now. It sounds like Jurassic Kaili to me.
Will the Bahamas be big enough?
It could be some stealthy Epiphone promo.
But, it's clean!
