I have a stack of Goldmine & Discoveries magazines, and decided last week to try and digitize them. Well, after several days, I finally finished one of the Beatle-related Goldmine issues, and decided to share it here. It'll probably be my only full magazine scan since it took a large amount of time due to having to perform 2 scans for each page, then merge them together. Future endeavors will be just the cover and any articles I want to save. That being said, it was fun going through the pages and seeing the vendors I used to do business with when building my Beatles vinyl, CD and bootleg collections.

I've uploaded both medium resolution and high-resolution PDF files of the November 3rd, 2000 copy. If you just want to look at the articles, the medium resolution copy would probably be okay. If you want to check out the tiny print vendor listings, then the high-resolution copy would be your best bet. I also zipped up my original merged scans (in JPG format) and uploaded them, in case anyone with the skills of creating better PDFs wanted to give it a shot.

I'm no expert at this so it's not perfect, but I'm still pleased with the outcome, even though the file sizes are a bit high.

Here's the link if anyone is interested in checking it out: <this link expired - see below for new link>

UPDATE (3/14/24): I've uploaded another 18 Beatles-related Goldmine magazine issues (in PDF format), ranging from 1988 to 2006. I didn't include all the ads this time...just mainly the Beatles-related content, so the content has been trimmed down quite a bit. Even so, there's some good articles contained in them, and wanted to share them with our community here. Here's the link:

<This link expired>

I also re-upped the 2000-11-03 issue with just the Beatles-related content.

Hope you enjoy!

Your PDFs look great!

I use Photoshop to Auto-align layers, which is a big help.

Or better, from Adobe Bridge you can send selected images to PS for Photomerge.

Either way, no manual alignment effort is needed.

I looked at using Photoshop, but I don't have a Photoshop license and didn't want to pay the monthly subscription rate for this project (since it'll probably be on-going for several months). So I continued looking and found an open source program on the web called "Hugin" that auto-aligned the pages and stitched them together. There was a little bit of a learning curve, but the results turned out pretty good. Once the images were merged, I used the Microsoft Photos program that came with my computer to adjust the brightness, contrast and alignment of the resulting JPG files. And finally, I used the free image viewer program "IrfanView" to set the parameters I wanted to use in conjunction with my computer's "Microsoft Print to PDF" option. So even though all that didn't produce perfect results, they were more than good enough for me and the price was right :D

The 1994 issue came out while I was a senior in high school. Their review for "Artifacts" inspired me to buy the box set (via the classifieds), thus beginning my 30 years of boot collecting! I read the Beatle material in that issue back to front, and still have it to this day. Glad to now have it in digital format. Thank you!
