Nimbus, thank you for uploading the BBC show. I tried downloading it after it was broadcast, using get_iplayer, but the best quality available was 95 kbps in m4a while yours is 320. Hope you could tell what software / method you used to achieve such a result (unless it is a secret trick of the trade).

PS The PM system did not work twice it seems, so I post the message here.

Sorry PK, I didn't see the PM notification.

That's strange. I also used get_iplayer to grab the file and then convert it to MP3 in Foobar. I've just tried downloading it again and get the same result - 317kbps m4a file (see snapshot). I'm UK based so I can only think that it may be different when using it in non-UK locations (that's if you are non-UK).

Iplayer has had 320kbps streams available for a few years now, but you're right, only UK-based people get those, overseas listeners get the lower quality stream.

(When you get a 320kbps stream it's always a good idea to check it spectrally because occasionally it's sourced from a 128kbps copy. I'm guessing that with shows that originally aired when 128kbps was the highest quality stream, sometimes they cheat and just re-encode to 320 rather that sourcing a higher quality one.)

Thank you for your explanations, Nimbus and Egg_Crisis. That must be the reason for a lower bitrate.
The best mode I could download was hafmed1 - 44 MB (see all mode sizes according to get_iplayer).
