Mr Wass said: “The lost bass needs to be valued more like a Van Gogh or a Picasso than just an instrument. Other than Beethoven’s piano, no instrument on earth can be compared to McCartney’s original Höfner. But the true value is in its history. This is the bass Paul played in Hamburg, at the Cavern Club, and at Abbey Road. That’s why we need to get this bass back. I know, because I have talked with him about it, that Paul would be so happy, thrilled, if this bass could get back to him.”

Huh? What about the bass lost in 1963?

I thought his 1964+ bass replaced the original one that got stolen in 1963.

Did we switch timelines?

According to Andy Babiuk's great "Beatles Gear" book, Paul bought another Hofner bass in 63 as he just wanted a spare. According to Babiuk the 61 bass was not stolen until 1969. But true, the 63 one was his main bass through the 60s.

Someone has this on the wall in their man cave.

Every evening he goes down to his cellar, and tells himself how special he is because he has Paul's bass, and then makes love to it like Nancy Allen in I Want To Hold Your Hand.

I might have mentioned this elsewhere, but you can see what may or may not be a replica of the '61 bass in the video for "Find My Way"...

I think it's the bass from "Let it be" movie, the one he used on Twickenham theater.
