George Martin 1968 vacation question

Post by bobzilla »

So famously George Martin left the White Album sessions and went on vacation. My question is... does anyone know the specific dates that Mr Martin was away?

In Mark Lewisohn's Recording Sessions Martin is listed as producer on the 30 August (Friday) session. And then the next session is the 3 September (Tuesday) session that lists the producer as "n/a". The next session that lists a producer is 9 September when Chris Thomas steps in. Later in the month, the 26 September session shows Chris as the producer and the next session is 1 October where Martin is back in the seat. Ken Womack's book Sound Pictures states that Martin came back to London from vacation on 26 September.

So my educated guess is that maybe Martin took the entire month of September off for vacation (1-30 September), but I'm curious if anyone has hard dates. And references to those dates if possible.

Thanks in advance!
