oddly enough (but I'm French), when I used to listen to "Free As A Bird" John's home piano demo at the Dakota (the take 1) I heard John introducing the song "Free... as a boid".
Could it be "boid" that John is saying before starting to play this song. This could make a sense with the verse "home, home and dry".

"Boid" is pronunciation of "bird" with an accent from a certain part of New York City. It was John that I quoted in the thread title.

Think of Archie Bunker's accent as portrayed by Carroll O'Connor, or Bugs Bunny by Mel Blanc. In that dialect, the sound of "oi" and "ir / er" are swapped. "Oil" becomes "earl," and "bird" becomes "boid."
