I like both UK & U.S. versions of Help!.
The UK Version has the seven new songs from the movie on side 1,
and seven additional songs on side 2.
The U.S. Version has the seven new songs from the movie plus the five Ken Thorne/George Martin Instrumentals.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either version of Help!
I prefer the U.S. version more since it's a Movie Soundtrack
and I grew up listening to the Capitol albums.

A Greek Chorus from Kwai Chang....strophe and antistrophe...ode and epode...
Nice diversion!

I don't think George Martin had much to do with the orchestral score material on the US Help! LP. This may be what led him to release his own album of orchestral arrangements of Beatles songs from the UK release.

I can be wrong, but I thought I read awhile back that George Martin wrote the music and Ken Throne
and an orchestra performed the music.

Re: worst Beatles LP ? Help
Help! was the 1st album I worked through after watching the film on the night of Dec 9th 1980 in the UK with my Dad. So, it will always be linked to that abhorrent event that changed the way I thought about the world forever.

I loved the film as a boy though. I found it hilarious. And I do like the songs in the context of the film.

This is incorrect, see http://www.beatlesebooks.com/help-soundtrack . It would also be quite implausible to let a different composer (because that’s what Thorne was) perform a score made by ‘competitor’ George Martin. While there would have been no reason to not let Martin use *his* orchestra, which he ultimately did with his separately released album!beatlesfanfromsop wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 9:51 pm Thanks for your response.

Not to mention on the US Help! album, it’s noted “Musical Score: Ken Thorne”.

You are right, that does not sound right.
I don't remember where I read that years ago.
It could have been from one of The Beatles Books I have,or perhaps on the web.

Re: worst Beatles LP ? Help
The score is actually one of the things I like about the Help movie. It is much more interesting than Martin's soundtrack for AHDN, which sounds like one of those awful "The Something Something Orchestra Plays The Hits!" lps you used to see advertised on tv in the 70s. "Ringo's Theme" is particularly soppy. I love the way ken Thorne combined the James Bond elements, the Beatles songs and the Indian aspect all into one. It is a totally unique and amazing score.
