Are you sure they started with a raw tape?

Collectors Music Reviews described it as a "remaster by Graf Zeppelin." Which, to me, implies it was RE-mastered from some other already mastered source. Yeah, semantics maybe, but if this new release started with just the raw tape, wouldn't the correct term be just "mastered by Graf Zeppelin"?

Either way, my guess is that this Stowe tape will result in a whole cottage industries of remasters and spectral demixes. Sooner or later, Misterclaudel is bound to release some 8 CD compilation that'll package all of them together.

Graf Zeppelin is a Japanese CD boot label specialising in (the clue's in their name!), Led Zeppelin CD releases. They often do a good job but they also often copy other people's work too. I suspect this is a copy of a fan remaster that they downloaded.

That's my hunch. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being same remaster (or a slightly edited version thereof) you posted a few days ago.

Which, by the ways, I really enjoyed. Thank you!

FWIW, I just ordered this... so we'll see.

If you can very kindly share on receipt we can see! Jolly annoying if they did this however. No honour amongst thieves though.

Even the version that was being traded *before* empress valley had the edit in ISHST. So it wasn't them who did the edit. It looks as though they just came across it in a trade and shoved it out as quickly as possible. It'll be interesting if this version is a different source. Let's hope so.

Translation of the Graf Zepellin spiel:

The Beatles' 1963 live recording at the Stowe School, whose existence was revealed this spring and stunned enthusiasts around the world. It was a time when there were no live recordings other than BBC radio appearances, and a full-size show at a unique boys' school was being recorded... In addition, the fact that it still exists was colorful, but since it is a sound source that has already entered the public domain, a copy has been donated to the British Museum for listening. The item was released last month, and enthusiasts from all over the world flocked to it, but the source of the sound source was from that library. There was a maniac who dared to record it while I was allowed to listen there. However, it seems that it was impossible to record by plugging it in, so they recorded by picking up the sound that flowed from the speakers. I was worried about the noise of "go" between songs and "Till There Was You" like a boiler sound, but because of the location of the library, it was difficult to record with the playback volume turned up, so instead I turned up the volume of the recording equipment and recorded it as a noise between the songs. As if to recall the recording at the library, before the start of the concert, the background music of the library and classics that seem to have nothing to do with the Stowe School of the day are played in the distance. The library is playing classical music at a low volume in the hall. In addition, in the middle of "A Taste Of Honey", there is a sound that seems to have been played by someone nearby. In addition to the noise, the tape has a low pitch. After the appearance of the preceding item, the state of such sound sources became a hot topic among enthusiasts.

Nevertheless, it is still of a quality that can be heard sufficiently for a 1963 recording, and after all, it is a sound source that enthusiasts around the world are delighted with because of the valuable performance content, but this time, of course, it is not a net version that copies from the preceding item or corrects the pitch of the preceding item, but a release with a proprietary sound source based on a library recording sent by a British enthusiast. However, even though it is a sound source obtained independently, as long as there is already a preceding item, there is no trick in releasing it as it is. To what extent can boiler-like noise between songs, which is a chronic disease of this recording, be alleviated? Is it possible? "GRAF ZEPPELIN" stood up to such a proposition. If it were him, he would not correct the low pitch, so what bothers me is that boiler-like noise. Of course, if you suppress all of them, the sound will turn into an extremely unnatural sound, but "GRAF ZEPPELIN" handles that very well. That "go" boiler sound was reduced to the hiss of "sir" and became easier to hear at once. Compared to the versions currently on the market, the difference is obvious. In the first place, it was a great historical discovery and distribution at a level that was grateful just to be able to hear the sound source, but it is still better to be easy to hear.

Among enthusiasts, it was said to be a legendary day in the early live activities of the Beatles after their debut, and it was said that the live performance at the Stowe School was held in a quiet atmosphere because it was an all-boys school, but when you can hear it, you will realize that the atmosphere was completely different from what was reported. As expected, there is no Beatlemania-like screaming after the popularity explosion, but even so, starting with "Misery", there is a frenzied excitement in places, and when it becomes "Hippy Hippy Shake", it is finally intense. On the other hand, the idyllic excitement that seems to be before the break is also smiling, and the hand-clapping that occurs in the debut song "Love Me Do" is peaceful. In addition, "Please Please Me" has a chorus worthy of the Beatles' first number-one hit single. I think it's a reaction unique to the time after the debut and when it started to attract attention, but it hasn't reached a break yet. The Beatles, who put on a generous performance in such a situation, are also wonderful. "Too Much Monkey Business" reminds us of the same atmosphere as the take of BBC'S "SIDE BY SIDE" recorded that morning, while "I Just Don't Understand" and "I'm Talking About You" The repertoire familiar from the BBC at the same time is also attractive because it is in front of the audience. Also, since George's voice does not come out on this day, it is really rare that Ringo appears instead of two songs, and they are sung in succession. In the finale, "I Saw Her Standing There" was sung again, but unfortunately the recording ended halfway. This time, we did not do a pseudo-complete edit that connected the opening take, and deliberately left the tape in its incomplete state, but thanks to this, although it is about two seconds, the performance before the end of the tape is recorded longer than the preceding item. On the contrary, the opening is not fade-in, but recorded from the point where the recorder switch is pressed, and you can understand that it is a release based on the version obtained independently from there. The Stowe School has become a historical excavation of Beatlemania fanatics around the world, but this time it is a limited press CD release in a version that is easy to listen to and demonstrates the detailed restoration unique to "GRAF ZEPPELIN"!

Make of that what you will.

The vinyl version would be nice, but coloured vinyl? I hate coloured vinyl. Standard black, please, or no sale.
