This is my upgraded, updated version of Abracadabra. When I first started that series four years ago, it was just a thread title I came up with because I felt like demixing was a magic trick. Then I kind of got lumbered with it which is bad because there is already a boot with that name and of course it was also the working title of Revolver. So I have rechristened it with the far more punning "Fabracadabra" to help distinguish it from the old set. If I ever do a demixed ABBA set, I will have to call it "Abbacadabra".
I've also done some new covers to go with the new version. I have never seen this photo before and only came across it today. It is a colour still from Blackpool Night Out in August 1965. Pretty cool pic I'm sure you'll agree.
This is Volume 6. In subsequent weeks I will share Vols 7-9 which are also finished. Also I have tweaked V2. Vols 1 and 4 I have already revised and they are fine, and I haven't even started revising Vols 3 and 5. They will follow some time next year.
So what is different? If you didn't follow the series of EPs I did recently, you should notice improved separation, high end and lack of artefacts. If you did follow the EPS, well then these have been tweaked a little bit more and there are some tracks that weren't on the EPs that I have also redone. In fact nearly every track is redone compared to the old version from last year, except for the bonus accapellas at the end. But don't obsess too much about all this. Just sit back and enjoy the music, and hopefully there will be nothing about the mix to distract you from that! As I've always maintained, the good mix is the invisible one.
