Is there any program which can scan for stereo files with digitally identical channels and flatten them to mono to save space?

My question would be do all playback programs know what a single channel mono file is?

Digitally identical channels in flac do not save space vs one channel flac.

But it does when you convert them back to WAV.

But why would you?

Just stating a fact. I'm sure some people store as wav not flac and so it would save storage space for them. Some media players won't play flac so if you use one of those your choice is between feeding it mp3 (or similar) and wav only.

I store in flac so no need to worry.
Thanks cnsyfan!
