Although I think we can all agree that George Martin pulled off a minor miracle by merging together two takes with completely different instrumentation, tempi, and KEYS(!) to create the final edit of Strawberry Field Forever, something about the released version always bothered me. Part of it was the selected tempo, which to me makes John sound like he's in the slow-motion section of a Bugs Bunny cartoon (I'll... get... you... ra...bbit!). The other part of me felt like something was missing at the moment of the splice at "going to" about :59 into the song.

Well, here's my humble attempt at "fixing" these things. Using the 1987 Magical Mystery Tour CD as my source audio, I increased the tempo... not only to solve the slow-mo problem, but also to "brighten" the song a bit in a higher key overall.

I also discovered that the "dead spot" at the splice in the released version was due mostly to the abrupt cut-off of the legato flute part (which had been playing for several bars up until that point) and Ringo's drum fill (which was also suddenly cut off). So, I patched in a few seconds from Take 7 into the mix, which not only allowed these two instruments to keep playing another few seconds until their more natural end point, but also "thickens" the vocal track with a homemade ADT of sorts, making the transition from the original edit sound as if it were intended in the first place. The whole thing seems to have more "kick" to me now... at least to my ears.
