Back when I was in college in the late 1970's the local record store had a never-slicked-over butcher cover for sale. I always used to laugh at the absurd price they wanted... $500...! Until one day it was gone. The same place had original 1960's colored vinyl Japanese Beatles albums and the Wall's Ice Cream EP but I seem to remember they were thirty-something dollars each. Way beyond what I was going to spend as a penniless student.

Woah, a raw Butcher cover?! People would tear each otheehr to pieces to get hold of that now!

It's a pity John didn't do a "butcher cover" with Two Virgins. Paste the same photo of them (except dressed) over the top of the naughty one. Then those who didn't want to look at their nasties could leave it on, and those who wanted a pornographic cover could steam it off (hey, there's also a joke there but I won't say it...)

That would've been great idea

Imagine if the new Revolver set was like Let it Be and had multiple cover sleeves. A butcher cover vinyl would be so great. Might sound crazy but a guy can dream.

Not to rub it in, but it was awesome on the big screen. It was in the cinema for weeks here in
Australia, I think I saw it five times. I was amazed that the large cinemas were full. The best viewing
was when I asked the kid if it was possible to increase the volume . . it was. :D

Another time as I was leaving the theatre a family were walking out behind me. A little kid, maybe seven
years old, holding his dads hand.

The little guy stopped, looked up at his father and said with a huge grin, "Dad, I LOVE The Beatles".

That moment, seeing that, is one of my favorite Beatle related memories ever. :-)

Yeah through my research I found out how popular it was in Australia. Through StudioCanal's Australian Twitter page I found a promo with some of the rare remastered Hard Day's Night clips and in the promo they mention the "extended" Australia release.

This brought up the memory of Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum on Yonge Street in Toronto, who had a VG butcher cover in the window for a few weeks, in the early 1980s. Asking price: $1500. I don't remember whether it was an original or one that had the trunk cover steamed off - it was a long time ago.

Oh, and another one. I was at a record show in the early '90s, browsing in one box of albums. The guy next to me was browsing in another box. He found a Y&T album cover with no record. He held it up to inspect the front, and then he had to put on his poker face. He asked the dealer how much he wanted for an empty cover, and he replied "Oh, two bucks." For a pasted-over butcher cover.

Ha! Trying not to let the dealer see the beads of sweat running down his forehead!

I had a similar experience when me and a few friends (yes I do have friends) found a record shop that had maybe 100-200 old vinyl Beatlegs in the racks. I felt like I'd just fallen through a wormhole into 1985. They were all priced ridiculously low. Immediately I saw at least 20 records I wanted to buy, but didn't have enough and knew that if I did that anyway the owners would get suspicious.
