HDs aren't going anywhere.

Especially considering how many this evil mutant sells.

But I'd really start worrying if he begins offering to implant a
free USB port at the base of your skull...

The IT rule of thumb is that you really should have 2 backups
One of those should be off site.
What if you have a theft or a fire etc.
That is what I usually did, but I have so much Beatles stuff that my 3 portable HD (the backups) don't fit in my my current safety box at the bank.

I guess i should get a new bigger one...

My primary storage is a 96 tb disk array in raid 5 (8 tb x 12) and is almost full.
Try lugging that around.
My previous one was 64tb (8tb x 8) and is now off site as backup.
Not sure what I'll build next leaning 12 tb x 12

Way too much for me. Good luck in keeping this organized.

I only work part time now.
It's becoming a full time job.
sometimes I have to take some time off to avoid burn out.
Maybe you have a friend where you can store something.
The other way is to have a good trading partner where you each back up the other.

I've started making regular folder directories and file directories of my various internal and external hard drives, using the DirLister software Lord Reith recommended on another thread. That way, when (not if) one drive fails, at least I'll know what was on it.

This is what scares me about having local copies only. This happened in several places across the country this week when we had some unusually hot weather.

Each to there own, but having a cloud copy helps me to relax knowing my content is safe.

Or keep a physical copy somewhere else. I have hard drives at home and at work.

Please get me more up to speed on cloud storage.

I have terabytes of stuff, because I work in video--also, as you can imagine, loads of music files too.

Is cloud storage affordable for large amounts of info? And aren't there security risks for that as well--can't your stuff permanently disappear out there? That's always been a concern of mine.

I've generally backed up lots of old things on BDR, as I've had experiences with hard drives failing on me. (Though that was generally before SSDs were common.)

I'd be curious to hear peoples' experiences here.

Here that hot weather is normal. Over time we are becoming Africans.
