This is an enquiry , re removing an announcers' intro over the opening notes of a Beatles BBC track on the 1963 Bootleg Album release. Track 22, is Roll over Beethoven with a rocking extended George Harrison solo. The track is mono, I tried Audacity to remove these opening words, but failed miserably. Is it possible to remove the vocals by other means. It spoils this unique version of the song. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Far from perfect but it's still amazing that it's even possible to do this.

Paul over at AlbumsThatShouldExist uses the X-Minus audio editing program to remove the BBC presenters' dialogue and does a pretty good job; didn't know if you were familiar with that (aargh...look whom I'm asking!).

Yeah I know that one it uses UVR as an engine.

If you create stems and erase the announcer from the vocal track created, you get volume dips in other tracks, you can add slight amounts of compression at a time, or make duplicate tracks and normalize the track in Audacity and adjust the volume til the entire track is at same sound. I did that to remove the bbc announcer for my stereo mix of Kinks This Strange Effect. Takes a little tweaking but is good if you have to remove a little bit here and there of vocal bleed on other tracks.

I don't really mind the spoken intros. They are part of the broadcast. Listening to a clean version, I will still just hear the presenter in my mind anyway!

I'm with you, LR. It's like hearing a live version of something where someone coughs during a quiet spot...next time I hear the studio version, my mind edits the cough right in. Which is why my (late) classical music fanatic friend never wanted to hear pop songs made with the tune of any classical work...he never could get it out of his head when he'd hear the original work.
